Hy-Vee Restructures Headquarters In New Strategy
WEST DES MOINES, IA – Keeping pace with its recent and expansive employee growth, Hy-Vee has announced a new strategy for the expansion of its headquarters to attract more technological and creative minds to the chain, as well as streamline efficiency. Hy-Vee will be splitting its headquarters between two locations.
"Hy-Vee has determined that the necessary traditional office environment and this unique and creative setting can’t coexist at the same location, so the previously proposed expansion does not solve our problem," Hy-Vee Group Vice President Peter Hosch wrote in a letter to Iowa Economic Development Authority, according to the Des Moines Register. "The issue is further complicated by the fact that our employment growth needs are happening far quicker than we anticipated, making more immediate access to office space a must."
Although its original proposition to the Authority Board was approved for one location in West Des Moines, Hy-Vee is now moving forward with the new plan as it was approved on Friday. The company’s originally agreed upon $7.5 million in tax credits from the Authority Board will now be split between the two intended headquarter locations.
Hy-Vee will house its office headquarters in a leased 130,000-square-foot space in Grimes, IA, that will also be renovated. Its already completed conference center will be housed in West Des Moines, IA. The office restructuring will also create around 102 new positions for Hy-Vee that will be split between the two headquarters.
Hosch continued to state that this new plan was developed in order to cultivate a unique work environment for its employees which will "attract and retain technology and creative staff."
