NECKARSULM, BADEN-WÜRTTEMBERG - Lidl has announced its selection of Alamance County, North Carolina for its new $125 million regional headquarters and distribution hub.

"We are thrilled to open new facilities in North Carolina and look forward to introducing American consumers to a different type of shopping experience," said Brendan Proctor, President and CEO of Lidl U.S. “We plan to build on the foundation that has made Lidl so successful in Europe, while creating a unique experience for American consumers that will be unlike anything else in the market.”

Earlier this year, Alamance County, as well as the cities of Graham and Mebane approved a nearly $5.38 million incentive package to lure the European chain there for a distribution center and regional headquarters.

The announcement of the new facilities comes on the heels of news that Lidl had chosen Arlington County, Va., over Charlotte for its U.S. headquarters. As we’ve previously reported, the grocer will spend more than $200 million on construction there.

The Triad Business Journal reports that this will be an 850,000 square foot facility on an 85-acre site. The planned Lidl property is adjacent to a 186-acre site for a Wal-Mart perishable distribution center.

Lidl is also rumored to be considering a store in the Charlotte and two in the Triad.
