Saudi Authorities Intercept Shipment of Amphetamine Hidden Amongst Table Grapes

RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA - There are many things in this life that are too good to be tampered with—fresh table grapes are one of them. Drug traffickers recently drafted these luxurious bulbs as the vehicle for their villainous operations, as Saudi authorities have intercepted 5,246,000 amphetamine tablets traveling through Jeddah’s Islamic Port inside crates of table grapes.

According to Arab News, the drug seizure was carried out as part of a coordinated operation between the directorate and the Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority. Maj. Raed Al-Najidi, spokesperson for the Saudi General Directorate of Narcotics Control, stated that the pills were disguised amongst crates of grapes intended for distribution throughout the Kingdom.

Three people were arrested in connection with the incident.

This investigation comes shortly after Saudi border patrols in Jazan, Najran, and Asir also recently reported attempts to sneak over a ton of cannabis and 66 tons of qat into the Kingdom.

A huge thank you goes out to the officials who remain dedicated to protecting the fresh produce industry from those with ill intentions. AndNowUKnow will be on the lookout for further important news in the industry.
