BROOKLYN, NY – The old saying goes, don’t do the crime, if you can’t do the time. And after career international drug trafficker Salvador Uribe-Jimenez was caught and sentenced to 20 years in prison for smuggling thousands of pounds of drugs via produce into the United States, maybe a new saying should be known far and wide, perhaps something as simple as “don’t use our produce for your drug use.”

While the likes of you and me rely on bananas to boost our potassium levels and supplement smoothies, Uribe-Jimenez had been using the flaps of banana boxes as his main mode of transporting illicit substances over the U.S. border.

“The defendant trafficked kilograms of cocaine and heroin from South America and Mexico for distribution in the United States, flooding our streets with dangerous drugs, and laundered millions of dollars in narcotics proceeds,” said United States Attorney Richard Donoghue in a statement according to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle. “This sentence demonstrates that those who seek to profit from importing and distributing narcotics in our country will be held accountable.”

Along with the flaps of banana boxes, Uribe-Jimenez was also known to send hundreds of pounds of cocaine, heroin, and marijuana into the states via tractor-trailer trucks and shipping containers.
