According to the press release, Owner Jim Shanley began the generational focus for Shanley Farms on its Citriburst Finger Lime program after discovering the Australian variety at a Citrus Exhibition hosted by a group of researchers from UC Riverside. The grower uses layered agriculture, a farming technique that skillfully utilizes all available land by pairing symbiotic crops, to nurture and grow its Citriburst Finger Limes as well as its other specialty produce.
In the fields, Shanley Farms’ programs also include Citriburst finger pearls, Morro Bay Avocados, Gator Eggs Avocados, Goji Berries, Passion Fruit, and specialty varieties of coffee.
The versatility of the fruit lends itself to a multitude of creations such as sauces, smoothies, main courses, desserts, and drinks—a key ingredient in cross-merchandising promotions. The variety is also high in vitamin C and has increased consumer interest in Citriburst Finger Limes.
Citriburst Finger Lime volume has begun to ramp up in the Shanley Farms Visalia and Morro Bay groves. Peak volumes run from July through September. Shanley Farms sells to consumers as well as having distribution to retail and foodservice that cater to food lovers, cocktail artists, and culinary adventurers.
