FRIESLAND, WI - Hitting 50 years is a golden opportunity for celebrations, and Alsum Farms & Produce is the newest member of this prestigious circle. The fresh market grower, packer, and shipper of Wisconsin-grown potatoes, onions, and provider of fresh, quality produce is hitting the big 5-0 this year and is taking the chance to reflect on a successful business while keeping its future close in sight.

Christine Lindner, Marketing Manager, Alsum Farms & Produce“We are looking forward to celebrating with the community our 50th anniversary on August 11 and 12!” notes Christine Lindner, Marketing Manager. “It’s a chance to reflect on humble beginnings, growth, and innovation, along with the people and partnerships from the farm side to produce buyers that allow our Wisconsin Healthy Grown® Certified Alsum potatoes to be a staple in the produce departments across the Midwest and beyond.”

Currently, Alsum Farms grows 2,700 acres of Wisconsin Healthy Grown® Certified Alsum potatoes and 300 acres of pumpkins at its lower Wisconsin River Valley in Arena and in the central sands of Grand Marsh, Wisconsin. Each year, Alsum works to expand its acreage to serve its growing customer base of retail and foodservice partners, on top of making enhancements to increase its production capacity.

  • Focusing on water, energy, and soil conservation in farming techniques to continue caring for the land
  • Improving and continuously expanding its pollinator and prairie habitats on its farmland
  • Feeding the hungry and reducing food waste
  • Continue to host tours to allow guests to have a greater appreciation of how Wisconsin Healthy Grown® Certified Alsum potatoes make their way from field to fork
  • Hosting the sixth and final Tater Trot 5K event before transitioning to establish a scholarship program for youth looking to pursue a career in agriculture

“Alsum has many ambitious plans for the next 50 years, Alsum Farms & Produce will continue to focus on stewardship and sustainability practices that guide our farm and production facilities,” continues Christine. “To celebrate, Alsum is inviting our community to join in on the fun with us. The 50th year anniversary may be time for gold, but Alsum is festooning decorations for the theme “Growing Goodness.” From tours to holding an employee day of service for a Feed My Starving Children pack event, Alsum continues to tie potatoes into its community. New this year and in celebration of its 50th, the company is offering guided tours of its production facility plant on Friday, August 11.

Saturday, August 12 will see Alsum’s sixth Annual Tater Trot 5K Family Run and 2-Mile Walk, a farm fresh produce market, vendor and educational booths, interactive games for the kids, and the Wisconsin Spudmobile and Spudly.
