Don Limón's Diego Morales Talks North American Presence and New Strawberry Offerings
HAMBERG, GERMANY - Don Limón, a European importer known for its flagship lime brand, is expanding its North American portfolio. As the company is working to establish a Mexican berry division, I connected with them to discuss the new VITA MÁS brand strawberries, and what is on the horizon for the German lime importer with humble beginnings.
“We have put a lot of effort into this project and are offering, as usual, through our extended experience here at Don Limón, a full supply chain management,” Diego Morales, VP of Don America, told me. “This means, making sure the berries get fresh from the field to the table of our consumers. To ensure premium quality inspections are done by Don Limón after arrival in the United States and before loading.”
For the past several years, the company’s existing North American offerings are conventional and organic limes, key limes, mangos, and pineapple. The new VITA MÁS strawberries are grown in the Zamora, Maravatío, and Huriamba regions in the state of Michoacán.
The berries are available in one pound and two pound clamshell boxes for wholesale, foodservice, and retail buyers. The available varieties are Festival, Albion, and Camino Real, available with or without stems. The berries are available for an extended season from November through March.
From its roots as a family business in 1952, the now-international company does business on nearly every continent. Don Limón is a global company with operations in Germany, South Africa, Honduras, India, Mexico, and the United States, offering premium quality produce that meets international standards. The company has also initiated development projects to improve the livelihood of farmers around the world, providing the opportunity to impact lives at the field level, as well as delivering healthy food to consumers.
