Oppy Named One of Canada's Best Managed Companies
BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA - Although the last year and a half has been filled with unprecedented challenges, our industry has prevailed, and Oppy is an example of how dedication and hard work pay off. Proving its adaptability, the company has been chosen as one of Canada’s Best Managed companies again, making it 20 years in a row that Oppy has received the title.
“It’s an honor to be recognized for the 20th time,” said Chairman, CEO, and Managing Partner John Anderson, recently named the recipient of the 2021 CPMA Lifetime Achievement Award and 2021 BCPMA Lifetime Achievement Award. “Even for a company as enduring as Oppy, two decades is a long time in the life of an organization. We’ve seen a lot of change and have made the most of the opportunities that came our way. I believe our terrific team, strategic vision for the future, and ability to continuously adapt have made it possible for us to sustain this honor, and I’m really proud of everyone involved.”
Applicants for this distinguished award are evaluated by a judging panel of independent representatives consisting of program sponsors as well as special guest judges. According to a press release, companies are analyzed based on overall business performance; leadership in areas of strategy, capabilities, and innovation; culture and commitment; and financials to achieve sustainable growth.
Oppy first applied for the award in 2001, and has received the honor every year since. The grower, marketer, and distributor has also been a part of the program’s Platinum Club for 14 years.
For 2021, companies were also judged on new performance metrics specifically applying to the circumstances that have occurred over the past year.
Judges looked at companies’ abilities to enable remote workforces, making employee health a top priority, acting with an increased sense of purpose and social responsibility, and a significantly heightened focus on cash flow. Anderson credits a quick transition and adaptation to a work-from-home environment, changing consumer demands, and maintaining culture as a part of why Oppy was able to perform well in these categories.
Winners of the award will be honored at virtual gala that will address leading-edge business issues that are key to the success of today’s leaders. Anderson will be part of the “Leading Canadian Business Forward Through Purpose” panel session which will discuss how Oppy has embedded purpose into its business and how its journey around social responsibility and sustainability has contributed to an engaged workplace driven by creativity and innovation.
Congratulations to Oppy on receiving this recognition for two decades in a row!
