Pear Bureau Northwest Responds to Shifting Retail Environment With Pear Storage and Ripening Tips

PORTLAND, OR - Consumers love educational tips, and retailers have a friend in the Pear Bureau Northwest (PBNW) in relating some to them. With Northwest pears still in season, the Bureau introduced some innovative communication tools to bring shoppers down the produce aisle and loading pears into their carts.

Kevin Moffitt, President and Chief Executive Officer, Pear Bureau"Pears are a tasty, healthy, and versatile fruit, and we want to remind people how to enjoy them now or extend their shelf life. Ripen fruit on the counter and store ripe fruit in the fridge to extend their shelf life. Simple and delicious," said President and CEO Kevin Moffitt.

Some of the bureau's communication tools include 400+ shoppable recipes through social media, focusing content on recipes that are easy to make at home, promoting pears for online shoppers, and helping consumers who are looking for longer-lasting produce items.

PBNW has also shared a video outlining how to maximize the shelf life of fresh pears, a press release noted. The video reinforces the fact that pears are a long-lasting fruit—an important element in today’s retail environment. The association will also be promoting the message that having too much ripe fruit is an opportunity to make smoothies and other recipes.
